Dennis Michael McKay
May 6, 1947 – May 28, 2010

Mike McKayWelker, Inc. is saddened to inform our friends and colleagues around the world that Mike passed away early Friday morning, May 28, 2010 in Houston, Texas.  Mike was 63 years old and is survived by his wife Marjorie, sons Chris and Michael, his mother, father, sister, grandchildren and other relatives as well as a host of friends.

So many recall Mike’s fervent love for Welker, his smiling face in the office, out at a field location or at the many trade shows that Mike attended over the years.  That robust voice and “Hi neighbor!” is now heard in Heaven.

In the early 1970s, Bob Welker ran into a young man working for one of the local gas companies in Houston.  He had a love for life and a love for the gas industry.  Bob knew quickly this is someone he wanted on his team and representing his company.  For 32 years, Mike honored Bob’s choice, then for Brian and finally Josh and the entire Welker team. He was an icon for Welker in the industry.  Any job that was given to Mike, he gave it his all.  If you knew Mike – you knew Welker.  If you knew Welker – you knew Mike.

During those early days Mike helped develop and build Welker products.  Then he quickly began to help Welker grow by becoming involved in the sales group and working with customers.  Soon he would start developing the Welker Representative organization and expanding the numbers of fine people who represent the Welker product line.  As a member of senior management, he would ultimately serve as Vice President of Sales for the USA market.

For a period of time Mike took the helm of OdorEyes and helped it through the early development years getting its product the name established in the industry.

In recent times, Mike’s health began to slow his pace, but not his heart and mind.  He became a solid mentor to our newer employees and spent the last two years with endless dedication sharing his knowledge and experience with as many as would listen.

A few weeks ago, he suffered two major strokes and spent the last 7 weeks hospitalized and in recovery.  He was just starting a rigorous rehab program when God called him home.

He was first a Christian, and then a husband, Dad, son, brother, Grandpa and finally a proud veteran, a friend, a competitor, a leader, well known, well respected and loved in the industry.

We will all miss Mike Mckay………… “Bye for now………. neighbor!!”
